About the Organisation

The Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales (AH&MRC) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) in NSW and has around 50 member services throughout the state.

The AH&MRC is committed to supporting member services across NSW to ensure accessibility to an adequately resourced and skilled workforce who provide high quality comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal communities.

The AH&MRC works in association with its member organisations on a range of initiatives to promote Aboriginal health and well-being in NSW, through strengthened ACCHS leadership and involvement in:

  • Health service delivery
  • Aboriginal community health events
  • Development and delivery of Aboriginal Health education
  • Research in Aboriginal Health
  • Collecting, evaluating and disseminating Aboriginal health data
  • Policy development and evaluation
  • Project and program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Ethical evaluation of Aboriginal Health research and data

About the Opportunity

AH&MRC now has multiple opportunities for Practice Support Project Officers to join their team based in Little Bay and in Sydney's inner suburbs. These are full-time, 1 year contract positions (following a six month probation period) with potential to extend after this time.

Reporting to the Practice Support Manager this role will see you working as part of a multidisciplinary team to design and deliver projects to support and strengthen member services and promote and protect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in NSW. 

Informed by member service consultation and focusing on the Public Health needs of Aboriginal communities across NSW, you will facilitate initiatives in alignment with industry best practice to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities experienced by Aboriginal communities. Whilst you will be based in Sydney, you will be required to travel to member sites as needed, across the state.

What does this look like day-to-day?:

  • Working as part of a broader team to plan, implement and evaluate key projects;
  • Engaging and supporting stakeholders to facilitate improvements in the communities in which AH&MRC operate;
  • Monitoring, reporting and analysing on the progress of project deliverables, including KPIs;
  • Providing high quality advice, reports and correspondence to relevant stakeholders; and 
  • Identifying relevant gaps within sector for improvements in health promotion.

About You

If you have experience in workplace strengthening, capacity building for sector, governance or compliance, ideally gained within the NFP, public health or ACCHO sectors, you are the type of person we are looking for in this role. Project management skills will also be critical to your success, with the ability to deliver multiple projects within set timeframes and budgets. 

Relevant qualifications gained in public health, health population or similar will be well-regarded, however are not mandatory.

This role would be well-suited to someone who is passionate about public health and has experienced working in a medical practice (ACCHS experience would be ideal), either in a clinical or administrative capacity, and wants to use their experience to help other organisations to succeed. With a focus on business support, you will have strong oral and written communication skills and a dedicated, stakeholder centric focus.

About the Benefits

AH&MRC is offering the successful candidates an attractive remuneration package ranging from $60,000-$85,000 plus super, negotiable with skills and experience. 

As a community health organisation, AH&MRC can also offer you $16,000 of your income salary packaged per annum. This figure is FBT exempt and no tax is payable on this amount, considerably increasing your take-home pay.
